We've all wished for more time. Time to figure things out. Time to pursue what we love. Time to spend with loved ones. Our wishes are coming true. Unless you are working as usual, you have a lot more time on your hands. Even if you are working from home, you should have more time from a lack of commute. I understand some of you have to entertain the kids and that may take up more time but for the most part, we all have a little more time than we usually do. What are you going to do with it? How can you make the most of it?
Time blocking! Yes, that is the answer. What is it you really want to accomplish during this time? Even if it's just to figure some things out, you need to put aside some time to think about it. The thoughts won't just come to you during a Netflix and Chill. Put some time aside each day. Whether it is to journal, sit with your thoughts, make a plan or start enacting a plan. I love the mornings. I've always been a morning person. I start my day with writing in my gratitude journal, then going over my daily planner and figuring out my goals for the day. What are my must do's? What are my; would like to do's? What things am I focusing on for the future even if I can't act on it today? If mornings aren't your thing, do it at night after everyone goes to bed. Just carve out some alone time to contemplate these things.
I think it's a great idea to have three goals for each day. They can be anything that you have always wanted to have more time for (granted you don't leave the house). Even if it's just to think about what you really want. Are you pondering a job or career change? Then research what you want to do. Are there jobs available that you will be able to apply for in the future? Are there some skills you need to acquire? Is there a way to do those now from home via virtual learning? Are you thinking about making a move geographically? Where do you want to live? Do the research. What are the values of the homes there? How much would you need to buy a house in the area? Is the cost of living the same? What types of jobs are available? You can research companies you may be a good fit and reach out to them in the future. Build a relationship with someone there. See where it goes.
Are you considering something completely new to you in any area of your life? A new religion, a nutrition plan, workout regimen, finally brushing up on history. Whatever it is, now is the time. But you have to schedule the time to do it. If you just say to yourself you will look into it at some point today, you likely won't. Get out a date book, planner or a notebook if that is all you have. Write out times for the day and carve out time for these actions. Write them down as an appointment. Sound like a little too much structure? We've had over a week at home now, I think a little structure may be in order. And honestly, I hate to be the one to tell you this, success takes structure. That goes for success in any area of your life. You thrive in what you focus on. Put your focus on where you want to go.
So take a break from Facebook and YouTube video's to really think about what you want to do with this gift of time. Don't squander it...make the most of it. Even if it is only to think about what is really important to you. Give yourself some time completely by yourself to give these things the thought and planning they deserve. Then block out some time to make an action plan. It's your life...make the most of it.
It's Taco Tuesday! Is anyone having tacos tonight? I'm having chicken again. Think about what you would like to accomplish during this extra time. And get going. Now, go make today, your best day yet.
