Persistence!!!

This month I'd like to focus on persistence. It's coming toward the end of summer and that usually means we've done a lot of relaxing, had a lot of fun and have lost track of our goals. We did a mid-year check in a few weeks back and I'd like to keep reminding you of your New Year goals. And the fact that it isn't too late to achieve them. We have almost 5 whole months to conquer these goals and it I don't want you to give up now.

When it comes to checking off those goals and achievements there are a lot of things that get in our way. But one of the biggest issues is complacency. As summer moves on we get used to the longer days and the leisure that comes along with that. We look forward to being outside more and having our morning coffee on the porch. And a nice cocktail at the end of the day. It's summer. That's what it's for! We need to slow down and enjoy life a little and summer is the perfect time to do that. So cheers to summer and getting some relaxation and fun in while you can. But I warn you to not become complacent. It becomes so easy to do because we are enjoying life more and feeling comfortable. But we all know that living life to the fullest is when we get out of comfort zone. When we challenge ourselves to grow and learn and do more. Because we aren't trying to get safely to death. We want to skid on in there screaming what a ride it was. I know I do anyway. And I have a long way to go before that would actually be the case. How about you?

When you get home at the end of a long day and all you want to do is relax remind yourself of your goals and why it is that you want to achieve them. Are you working on something on the side. Even if it's just a better understanding of yourself and improving your life. All these things take work and effort. And it wouldn't be too much to ask to put a half hour of this work in before you grab that cocktail.

You hear me talk about things becoming a practice a lot. That means you have to practice them before they become part of your daily routine. So get in the habit of doing them everyday. Whether it is writing in your gratitude journal or free journaling to figure out what is really going on inside your head. I've often heard people say that when you journal sometimes it takes up to a half hour of writing to even start to get to the heart of what you are truly feeling inside. I've been doing something called morning pages for the past few months. It's when you write three full pages of thoughts first thing in the morning, every morning. What this does is help you figure out some of the things that are going on in your subconscious mind so you can clear it. Writing about it early in the day is a way of venting and now it won't be on your mind all day long. Do you get what I'm saying? It's also a way to get in touch with how we are really feeling. Our lives are so full of distractions and noise it's hard to know what is really going on inside us. There is so much chatter, all the time. So this is a time to get quiet with yourself and tap into what it is you need. I don't do this as much as I should but when I do I always feel a little more peaceful. It's important to take the time. I remind myself that I need to do this for my own well-being and peace of mind. It's important and therefore a necessary part of my routine. If not, I'm not calm and cool the rest of the day. I'm scattered and in reactive mode rather than thinking things through.

I know it can be really tough to keep up with new things in your life. And we've been conditioned to not like practice. We just want to play in the game. But we also know we won't be good at it unless we practice. That is why is so important to take the time to do these things every single day. And when it is one of those days that you absolutely don't feel like doing it then by all means, take the day off. But you better get back to it the next day. Because this is the practice that is going to help you achieve the life of your dreams. And bring you peace. So if you still don't feel like it the next day come back to your 'why'. Why is it you set out on this journey in the first place. Why is you want to better yourself? What is it you are trying to achieve and why is it so important to you? That why is the thing that will keep you going over and over again. Write it down on a post it and put it everywhere. On your fridge, on the dash of your car, at your desk at work, on the front of your planner and write it on your bathroom mirror. The more you remind yourself of your why the more you will stay committed and motivated to achieve your goal.

Life isn't always easy. In fact it's rarely easy but it's always worth it. And trust me when I say you are worth the work. And I have faith in you. Now get to it!
