I loved our focus on discipline last week. It really pumped me up and helped me step up my game. I hope it did the same for you. Now I'm reading a book called 'Relentless" by Tim Grover. It's intense. It's insane. And it will definitely get you to the next level of whatever it is you are working toward.
There are so many things we work toward in our life whether it be work goals, financial goals, health and fitness goals and relationship goals. And the thing in common between all of them is they all take work to achieve. Anything worth having is going to take work. We all know that. It's common sense. But is it common practice? We all want to achieve goals but not all of us are willing to put in the work it takes to get there. That is where being relentless comes in.
Once you get a handle on your discipline you can become relentless about it and keeping up with it. You will always have a decision to make. You can stay relaxed on the couch watching t-v or get up and do a workout. You can sleep in a little longer or put in the work it will take to get that promotion and raise at work. You can stay in your little cocoon of comfort at home or work on your relationship to make it the best it can be. These are all choices we have to make. And what I've learned is it isn't always easy in the moment. It really is so much easier to stay in our comfort zone and stick with the status quo. It's what we're used to. It's what our brain is rooting for us to do so it doesn't have to do extra work. All the odds are we will stay exactly the way we are. But we want more. We want a different and better life. And that means doing different and better things for us.
I always tell you it's about the journey, not the destination. It's the exact opposite in this case. Focus on the end result to get you through what you have to do in order to get to that goal. Achieving a goal is never easy. That's why many people never conquer theirs. But think about the end result you are looking for. Sitting down to have that difficult conversation with your spouse, child or friend. I've often felt a sense of relief after having candid conversations with people in my life. An airing out of feelings so to speak. It's not usually fun in the moment but hopefully everyone feels better when it's over.
It's the same with working out and eating healthy. Get that workout done. Just do it. You will feel so much better that it's finished. You will feel good about yourself and your body will feel good as well (in the long run anyway)! Eating healthy will not only make you feel proud of yourself it will literally make you feel better in everything you do.
Getting up early or staying up a little late to work on that project for work that will get you some extra notice isn't always what we want to do in the moment. But think about when you are the one chosen for that better position with the higher paying salary. Do the work now to get the reward later. Keep at it and it will come. It's all up to you.
Keep in mind the quote from above. Focus all your energy on that end result. Want it, crave it so much that the work you need to do in order to achieve it doesn't matter. You are willing to do whatever it takes to get you to that end goal. Be willing to do the hard stuff. Be willing to be uncomfortable. Be willing to do things you don't want to do. This is the difference between highly successful people and those who live a mediocre life. Why live a life that is just okay when it can be great? Harness your power of visualization of yourself in that dream life and then do the work. Focus on the light at the end of the tunnel.
Are you feeling pumped right now? I know I am! So let's get to that work. Let's make sure we have a plan that will take us where we want to go and how we are going to get there. Because you always need a plan. If you don't plan your life it will control you instead of the other way around. So get that plan, figure it out and follow through. Go through the hard stuff to get to the great stuff! I want the very best life for you and for me too. And we can get there together!
I'm offering discipline coaching for those who want to step up their discipline but need that extra push. We will work together on a plan to get you to the goal you are looking to achieve. I will be relentless in my pursuit of getting you to do the things you say you will do. I will be there cheering you on and telling you when you are slacking and celebrating all your wins. Arrange for a free call to see if this is something that would help you achieve your goals.
