Don't give up!

When it comes to a goal you are pursuing you already know you must give it your all. Timelines are good for certain aspects of your goal but they shouldn’t be set in stone. Let me play out a scenario for you. You’ve been working at your goal, putting in the work and doing all that you can to be successful. It’s been hard, really hard. You love what you are doing but maybe not seeing the results you had hoped for…yet. It’s tempting to quit. It’s tempting to just say, oh…it didn’t work out. And go back to your old, easier life. But that is also a form of instant gratification. It’s taking the easy way out. It’s not giving it all you’ve got. It’s not figuring out what is working for you and what needs some adjusting. There are so many different things you can do before deciding to quit.

Instant gratification plays into this in two ways. One, you won’t be an instant success. There is no such thing as an overnight sensation. It’s only overnight that you discover them. Two, it is a form of instant gratification to quit. To give up working really hard at what you want and trying to make your dreams comes true in order to go back to the easy life. The one where you were comfortable but not as happy. Keep at it. Don’t quit. You didn’t come this far to only come this far! Right????

Ask yourself right now what is one thing you can do to get yourself closer to your goal today? Is there something you are missing when it comes to how to get where you want to go? Don’t tell yourself that it’s too hard. There is always a way. And it may take awhile to get there but that is okay. Don’t worry about the time it will take to get there…the time will pass anyway. So, spend it doing what will get you where you want to go. Better late than never. Yes, I’m throwing all the clichés at you. Because they are all true.

Try to look at it this way…. would you ever give up on raising your kids? Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it? But when you get pregnant you know you will be spending the next 18 years (at least) getting this person ready to handle the world on their own. You know it’s going to take a good portion of your lifetime to make that happen. And I don’t know of anything that takes more work than raising babies. Have you ever once thought about walking away from your kids because it was too hard and not working out the way you thought it would? I’m going to assume the answer to that is no. I’m sure everyone has their moments where they daydream about running away but never seriously consider it. My point is…you know this is going to take a good portion of your lifetime. You are willing to put in the work no matter how long it takes. Shouldn’t you have the same commitment when it comes to what is going to make you the happiest you can possibly be? I think so.

No matter what, keep at it. Keep doing what it takes to get where you want to go. If you are not getting anywhere then reassess what you are doing and see where improvements can be made. If you are making progress but it’s not coming fast enough for you…hang in there! It’s just taking longer than you hoped. It doesn’t mean it isn’t happening or going to happen. You have this one life…make it the best one possible for yourself!

It is “I wish it were cocktail Friday” Thursday. We are almost to the freakin weekend. Remember, when you feel like quitting, don’t. You can do this. I believe in you because you are a badass! Now, go make it your best day yet.
