When it comes to living the life you dream of you must do it with intention. You have to set your intention for the day and then make it happen. Whether it be having a good day to getting your workout in or staying on track with healthy eating. Whatever it is you hope you day to be…you have to set the tone and live up to that moment with intention.
Unless you are very lucky you won’t wake up one day and have everything you’ve always wanted. It just doesn’t work that way. If you want things to be different in your life, you have to live differently. The first part of that is figuring out how it is you want to live. How will you get there? What are the steps you need to take and then plan to take them. You have to live with intention.
If you want to be happier every day, what does that day look like? How can you start making that happen? Don’t make it unrealistic because then it won’t work. What can you do right now that will make it a better day for you? Start doing it. Then add more and more. But you have to be intentional about it. You have to be the one to include the things in your life that will make you happier. You have to know what those things are.
You can also write this down in your journal every day. What is your intent for the day? Is it to feel more joy? Is it to get through the day without arguing with the kids, spouse, in-laws? Is it to eat healthy? Or get a workout in? Is it working on a dream or goal you’ve been putting off? What is most important to you? Right now and in the future? What actions will get you there? Write them down and be intentional about including them in your life. We all have this tendency to just coast through life. Once we reach those big goals…job security, good marriage, happy/healthy kids…we feel we deserve to sit back a little and just relax. That’s great. Do it. But not forever. I feel there is no joy in coasting. We are all here to learn and to grow. Relaxing is easy and comfortable but will you find true happiness in it? Ponder that.
Pick an intention for today. It doesn’t have to be something huge. In fact, I encourage you to make it something simple so you can see how easy and transformative it can be. Maybe you want to completely check out of your job while on lunch today. Get out of the office. Eat outside or go to a place that has your favorite food. Relish the taste of the food. Take joy in the fact that you are away from the stress and demands of your job for a half hour and make it a time of recharge. Do something, anything that will make that half hour happier. It can be sitting in your car listening to music with a nice view or staying in the break room while you read a book. Whatever it is that will make you a happier you…do it.
Make it a priority. Be intentional. Set it to be a goal for the day. Take at least one part of your day and set it aside for something you love. Make it simple. Listening to music, reading a book, watching a favorite show (not just any show), helping the kids with homework, reading them a story before bed, a little action with the spouse. It doesn’t have to be something monumental. Just something that will brighten your day. Make a point of it. Be intentional about including it in your life.
It’s Taco Tuesday!! Think about what you can start including in your life right now that will make it better. Then, be intentional about doing it as much as you can. Now, go make today your best day yet!
