There is just something about the start of the school year that signals a time for new beginnings. It's nostalgic for us adults as we remember our horror or excitement that a new school year was upon us. It reminds us that we can start fresh as well. It's almost like New Year's Day, only in September.
It's a great time to assess where you are and where you want to go. Are you the type of parent you thought you would be? Are you better or worse than what you imagined? Are you being present for the moments that matter most?
How are things on the job/career front? Are you where you want to be? Are you working toward where you want to be? Do you think a major change is in order for your happiness? Do you have any idea what it would take to make you happier on that front?
Are you happy in your current living situation? Do you love where you live? Do you love the actual house and the things in it? If not, think about what changes you want to make. Sometimes some small changes can give a whole new outlook. I went fall decor shopping yesterday and I will spend the day putting all my new stuff out. It will give me a new boost as I walk in my door and take in my new, slightly different surroundings. It's the small things that make the most difference sometimes.
Are you where you want to be spiritually? Do you feel mentally healthy? Is there something that you think could use some help? Do you need more clarity or direction about where you want to go? Seek help and guidance then. Be it in the form of a therapist, friend or family member or just getting quiet and listening to your inner voice.
Unofficial summer has come to an end. Just one chapter in this year of your life. It's time to turn the page. And your book is so interesting we can't wait to see what happens next. Make sure it's as exciting and interesting as you would want to read. Because this is the novel of your life! Now, go make it the best book ever.
