Set yourself up for success

How true is that statement. Achieving success takes work. You have to put in the extra effort. You have to work harder. You have to have discipline. You must be willing to do what it takes to get where you want to go. You have to do it even when you don’t feel like it. You have to do it even when it gets hard. You have to keep at it.

When it comes to discipline the best thing you can do is set yourself up for success. Anticipate roadblocks and plan for what you will do to get around them. Planning is your best friend. It takes some extra time and effort to do this but if you are willing to do it you may find yourself more successful than you have in the past.

Are you trying to eat healthy this year? Plan your meals. Yes, plan them…ahead of time. Food prep. Carve out a little time each Sunday to prep your breakfast, lunch and dinners for the week. Prep what you can ahead of time and do only what you need to at mealtime. You don’t want to spend part of your Sunday putting food in little containers? I know, laying on the couch is so much better. Do it anyway. You will be so grateful you did every morning. In fact, that is something you can put down in your gratitude journal. Bonus! Do you normally head to the vending machine at work in the afternoon? Bring something with you that you can eat instead. Something healthy!

You want to get back to the gym? Will you go first thing in the morning? Put your workout clothes out the night before. Are you going after work, then pack your bag. Or is your workplace casual enough to wear some cute leggings and sneakers for the day? That’s even better. Put it down as an appointment in your scheduler. Don’t break the promises and appointments you make for yourself! Don’t let yourself down.

Make no mistake, creating a discipline is hard. It takes time and effort before it becomes a habit. But once it is a habit, you’ll wonder how you ever did it any other way. Keep in mind the initial quote, be willing to do what other people are not in order to get what other people wish they had. Life is not handed to you on a silver platter. You have to work for what you want. If it’s important enough to you, you will figure out a way.

It is hump day already! Plan out ways to make your discipline easier to handle. Set yourself up for success. If you don’t…who will? No, go make today, your best day yet!
