Your Passion

Yesterday I talked about how important it is to live your purpose. But I know some of you don’t know what that is. It can be anything that brings you joy. It can be anything that you want to share. It doesn’t have to be something huge and grand. It can be knitting scarves for your family. Or selling them online. It can be about becoming the best Words With Friends player ever. It can be about helping at your local soup kitchen. It can be whatever you want it to be. But it must light you up. It has to make you feel good, like you are making a difference to someone.

Rachel Hollis (you know, my girl) just posted about making a joy list. This is something I have actually done before. Write down all the things that make happy. All the things you enjoy doing. Whatever that may be. Reading, needlepoint, volunteering at the kids’ school, camping, going to concerts, spending time with friends, building birdhouses. You get the picture. It can be anything that is fun for you. Now, look over your list. Is there something on it that you love more than everything? Is there something that you can do more of than you do now? Is there something that makes you want to jump out of bed on the mornings you get to do it? That is what we’re looking for!

Don’t put so much pressure on yourself. Just think about what you like to do. And what you want to do for the rest of your days. If you could get paid your current salary for any job, what job would you get? Look into that. Even if you are being smart and saying something like, drinking beer, there are jobs like that! Not many but they’re out there. But the point isn’t to get a job doing it (unless you can figure out a way to do that), it’s more about doing what you love. If you love drinking beer than visit breweries. Taste different types and figure out the one that you like best. My brother in law actually makes his own beer. That could be fun too. And then you could give it out to all your friends and family, or even sell it.

Just find something that you really enjoy and then start doing it more often. Start figuring out different ways that you can do it. Think outside of the box to come up how to make it more a part of your life. Am I making sense here? Am I getting through? Hello? I hope so. Because guess what, it’s Friday and I’m out of gas!

I hope I was able to give you some guidance today. Only you can find your purpose. It’s not as daunting as it sounds. Start small and work up to doing something more often and see how you like it. If it’s not lighting you up the way you thought then maybe that isn’t your purpose. Reassess and move on. Try again. What else will you do with the rest of your life? Be miserable? C’mon now! Yes, it takes a little effort. But not nearly as much effort as being unhappy or unsatisfied. That just makes you grumpy!

Today is cocktail Friday, y’all! Grab a cold one because it is the freaking weekend! I hope you have some ideas of what your purpose might be. Have a fantastic weekend and be safe in whatever you do. Now, go make it your best day yet!
